The best serum for fine lines and wrinkles

As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen and elastin (translation: we wrinkle). Sure, it's part of life, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways to slow down the visible signs of ageing. If fine lines and wrinkles are your major concern, seek out retinal, the gold standard in plumping and smoothing because of its ability to boost cell turnover and collagen production. Side note: you can read up on why retinal is better than retinol here

Enter Super Retinal Vitamin A Serum, a powerful treatment to firm, plump and brighten while you snooze. This innovative formula, featuring next-generation retinal, is clinically proven to work 11 times faster than retinol,* effectively smoothing, brightening and firming the skin. Crafted to be gentle yet potent, it delivers transformative results without irritation, making it suitable even for sensitive skin.

How to use: For newbies to retinoids, we recommend using Super Retinal Vitamin A Serum twice weekly for two weeks, always at night. Gradually build skin tolerance by using every alternate night for another two weeks, and then nightly, or as needed to suit skin tolerance. Don’t forget to follow with a soothing, hydrating moisturiser (may we suggest Skin Drench?) and always use broad-spectrum sunscreen the following morning.

The best serum for dehydration, dryness or redness

If your skin is dry or dehydrated (learn the difference here), look for ingredients that boost hydration and moisture such as vitamin B3 (or niacinamide). A collection of clinical papers (including this one) have proven that vitamin B3 not only penetrates the stratum corneum (the skin’s barrier to transepidermal water-loss), it supports skin cell renewal by improving its ability to retain moisture. It’s also best to avoid harsh surfactants that might damage your skin barrier

Your saviour? Back In Balance Vitamin B Serum, a quick-absorbing formula to soothe and hydrate when skin needs a reset. Hardworking niacinamide and vitamin F support the skin’s moisture barrier, provitamin B5 soothes and Japanese blue-green algae delivers serious hydration.

How to use: Apply daily, morning and night for happy, hydrated skin. After cleansing, apply 1 pump to hands and press lightly into face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Wait a few minutes before applying other serums, then finish with moisturiser.

The best serum for dullness or pigmentation

If it’s dull, uneven skin you’re dealing with, vitamin C is here to help. The powerhouse antioxidant improves radiance, helps fade hyperpigmentation, and promotes collagen production. Talk about a multitasker.

Of all the forms of vitamin C, ascorbic acid (also known as L-ascorbic acid) is the most researched in terms of its beneficial effects on the skin. That’s why it’s the hero ingredient in Daybreak Vitamin C Serum, a potent formula to boost radiance and tackle hyperpigmentation. A combination of powerful antioxidants astaxanthin, ascorbic acid, vitamin E and ferulic acid work to get you glowing and even out skin tone. Ectoin helps to support skin from pollution, sunlight and blue light exposure while increasing moisture.

How to use: Apply daily, morning and night for radiant, even skin that’s shielded from environmental damage. After cleansing, apply 1 pump to hands and press lightly into face and neck avoiding the eye area. Wait a few minutes before applying other serums then finish with moisturiser.

The best serum for irritation, sensitivity or scarring

If you're constantly red and itchy or often flare up when trying new products, you need a gentle, nourishing serum that will calm you down. Vitamin E is one of the most powerful antioxidants out there, meaning it’s working hard to shield your skin from environmental stressors like UV and pollution, which contribute to premature signs of ageing, pigmentation and skin irritation. But it’s got a few more skin benefits we think you’ll love - it works to deliver and lock in long-lasting moisture, it helps smooth skin and is great for helping soothe sensitivity.

But our humble green oil, The Caretaker Serum, is so much more than just vitamin E with a gorgeous, calming scent. We’ve combined it with a few of its best friends to ensure your skin is left feeling happy, healthy, and strong - and more radiant than ever because of it. Think: vitamin F, sea buckthorn and squalane (plant-based, of course) help to support the skin’s integrity and promote skin barrier preservation, plus vitamin C to promote collagen production and target pigmentation for brighter skin.

How to use: Apply daily, morning and night to help reduce the appearance of blemishes and even skin tone. After cleansing, apply 1 pump to hands and press lightly into face and neck avoiding the eye area. Wait a few minutes before applying other serums then finish with moisturiser. Stop using this product if you develop redness or itching.

Can I layer serums?

Absolutely. But we recommend sticking with one to two serums in your AM and PM skincare routines, as too many products can result in sensitised skin and a damaged skin barrier. The order depends on the specific products you’re using but as a general rule, work from most active to least, thinnest to thickest.

Note: Retinal and vitamin C are powerful ingredients and can cause irritation when used together at once. We recommend using Daybreak Vitamin C Serum in the morning and Super Retinal Vitamin A Serum at night if you’d like to use both.
